Let’s talk about the art of self-understanding
today. This is an essential starting point. You need to understand yourself to know how to
make the most effective use of your natural powers and talents.
If you do not know how to be an effective individual, how can you achieve your goals?
Here are the crucial facts about
self-understanding.
 First, you can never really understand yourself, even after a
lifetime of learning and experience. Why? The reason is that you are always growing,
always changing and always evolving one way or another. There is no way to pinpoint your
exact nature at any time. You simply
don’t have a fixed human nature. By the time you can consciously understand yourself,
your knowledge will be out of date. Your subconscious is constantly developing at a
furious rate, faster than you can consciously keep up with. 
Many people claim to be experts on ‘human nature’.
Psychologists, psychiatrists, parents, teachers, politicians and priests like to talk as
if they know everything about ‘human nature’ even when they don’t even know
themselves.  The problem is that they didn’t
realize that there is no such thing as a ‘human nature’ in the first place. Yes,
that is right. You heard me. This is not a misprint. There is no such thing as a
‘human nature’ although so many people are talking about it as if it is THE real
thing.
Much of the stuff you read in newspapers, magazines, psychology
and religious texts about ‘human nature’ is only speculative knowledge. Not
factual knowledge.
 | If you are looking for your ‘human
nature’ you will be disappointed. It does not exist. The closest thing to that which
we often pass of as ‘human nature’ is that invented by the people in authority. Every
authority figure has his/her own interpretation about this. |
This does not mean that you should not try to
understand yourself. On the contrary, you should because self-understanding, even at a low
level, can make a difference to your success potential.
 I am going to show you how to understand yourself better. No, you
won’t understand everything today. Understanding takes time. With each experience,
you will understand more and better. There is no limit to what you can understand about
yourself or the world. Know it. Believe it! Be pro-active. Seek and try things out for
yourself to understand their meanings and truths in relation to your being.
 Second, within you is all the power you need to
succeed in life. There is infinite power within you. Powerful natural forces. Understand
them, control them and unleash them. Realize your true potential.

 All the authority figures around you are constantly
seeking ways and means to control you, to prevent you from using your natural abilities,
skills and talents to their fullest potential. They do this out of the fear of the powers
within you. So remember to keep your efforts in self-development a secret.
No one can prevent you from succeeding in life if they don’t know your plans.
Third, love yourself to understand yourself better. Stop
believing in false-to-fact axioms like sins, obligations and submissiveness. To do so
would be like fighting with the natural forces within you and resisting being your true
self.
Fourth, be truly open-minded. Open your mind to
all the possibilities in life. Nothing is ever clear-cut.
Being open-minded will help you to come to a better understanding of who you are, what you
are, and where you are headed. You are born with a purpose. Find out what it is that you
must do during this lifetime and do it. This is the way to develop your personal power and
find your desired level of success.
 Fifth, ask yourself these questions: Who am I? Am I my body? Am I my mind, the sum of my past, present and
future thoughts and ideas? Am I my heart, my feelings and emotions? Or, am I my spirit, my
habits, actions, experiences and achievements? Your experiences will confirm that you are
more than a physical or mental being or even the total of all these.
| Your answers to these questions need not
necessarily be the correct ones. For in life there are no right or wrong answers.
Who are you? The answer to this and the other questions will keep changing as you grow up.

| The important thing is that you can relate
to those answers you gave to questions of life. If you can
truly believe that they are right for you, they will be right for you.

| The quality of your life depends on your
understanding of yourself AND your place in the scheme of things, not the
other way around. |
